Following a very successful District Carnival, a team of talented Ben Venue swimmers represented the Armidale District at the North West Regional Swimming Carnival. These students were selected to represent Ben Venue and the local district following fabulous swims at the district trials. Our team of swimmers put in a huge effort at the regional carnival, with many recording improved times from the school and Armidale District carnivals.

Well done boys and girls, you should be very proud of your great success.

Following some exciting and very competitive events at the Regional Carnival, Clay Nixon was selected to represent Ben Venue as part of the North West team at the State Carnival in Sydney in April!  Clay will be swimming in the 50m Freestyle at the carnival, congratulations Clay.

Cricket Report

The Ben Venue cricket team played their first match in the PSSA knockout competition against Armidale City PS last Tuesday 9 March.

Armidale City won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Ben Venue PS openers Luke Whitty and Jacob Finlay set to work on steadily building the innings with some patient batting. In the 5th over Whitty opened his shoulders hitting a four and a six in consecutive balls before being bowled out for 13 runs.

Cahill McIntyre joined Jacob Finlay and the pair steadily kept the runs flowing until Finlay was out caught for 6 runs.

Ben Venue Captain Lachlan Taylor was next in and he attempted to get the runs flowing with some impressive shots. However this contributed to his dismissal when he was out for 9.

McIntyre and Josh Clee then batted out the innings scoring 27 and 9 not out respectively with the final score being 3 for 108.

The Armidale City innings was very slow to get going with Ben Venue taking wickets regularly.  Excellent fielding saw the first 4 wickets being run outs.

Armidale City were all out for 58 in 21 overs.

Best bowlers for Ben Venue were Luke Whitty 1 for 4 off 4 overs, Brooke Moran 1 for 13 of 3 overs, Oliver McNeil 1 for 5 off 1 over and Hugh Aiken 2 for 4 off 2 overs.

Ben Venue now go on to play Guyra Central School in the next round of the competition.
