As we come to the end of the term our teachers would like to hold Family Conferences. If you have any concerns about your child’s progress this is a great chance to discuss it with class teachers and hear about their learning goals. These will be held on Monday 22 March in the school Hall from 3:30pm – 7:30pm. They will take on a different format this year and we ask that you bring your child with you to the meeting, so that they can share their learning goal for the semester with you. Booking sheets will come home later this week. If you cannot make one of these times, please contact the classroom teacher to set up an alternative meeting. Reminders, to fit all parents in meetings are only 10 minutes in duration. If you require extra time, please discuss this with the teacher so an alternative date can be organised.
Harmony Day is celebrated annually on 21 March in Australia and began in 1999, coinciding with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Harmony Day is an attempt to acknowledge the contributions of multicultural communities to Australian society. The message of Harmony Day is that ‘everyone belongs’ and celebrates the heart of who we are, as a nation, by embracing and welcoming new arrivals from around the world as well as acknowledging and celebrating the oldest continuous culture of our first Australians and our history of immigration and acceptance of refugees over time. Our school over the years has welcomed families from Brazil, Philippines, Vietnam and Fiji so we have decided to celebrate Harmony Day on Wednesday 24 March. Students will be participating in various activities over the day and wear the colour orange, as this is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Students may wear orange clothes, ribbons shoes, hats etc. If they don’t have orange the are asked to wear their normal school uniform. The canteen will be offering only international food on the day and families are asked to pre-order. Choices will be Tacos, Nachos, Spaghetti Bolognese, Lasagna, Butter Chicken, Curry Puffs and Sushi. Everything will be $4. There is a special Harmony Day menu on Flexischools & orders will have to be in by 12noon on Tuesday.
At Holy Trinity we see communication to parents as an important aspect of school life so as everyone can work together. Many of the classes from Kindergarten to Year 6 use Class Dojo. This is a classroom communication app used to share reports between parents and teachers. Teachers can track student behaviour and upload photos or videos. If your child’s classroom teacher is using this app, it would be great if you could connect to the app. You are also able to receive notifications when they come through or you can turn this off. If you have problems connecting to your class account, please don’t hesitate to ask your child’s teacher. Other classroom teachers have also set up email accounts so as they can make regular contact and send photos. Through both of these services you are able to let classroom teachers know of any concerns you or your child is having as well. All information is kept private.
