Eclipse House News

Term One has flown by and has been a flurry of activity. This last weekend saw a record numbers of Eclipse boys in the house and we enjoyed a weekend full of activity. The term has been a fun and positive start to the year and I look forward to continuing the year on this trajectory.

Beach

The boys have been getting quite involved in the recreation activities this year, particularly the trips to Middleton Beach and Emu Point. We have started running these activities in the early afternoons instead of the mornings and the boys have found these start times much more manageable. A couple of weeks ago many of the boys who were in the house for the weekend joined us down at Emu Point for a magical afternoon. The sun was shining, the water was clear and still and the boys enjoyed throwing a footy around and jumping from the jetty before getting food from the café.

All Boarding Activities

On Friday afternoon the boarders were organised into groups with representatives from each house for the annual MasterChef event. It was great to see the various meal ideas coming together and the Eclipse boys stepping up to guide the younger students.

The Senior boarders buddied up with one of the Middle School boarders on Sunday night and enjoyed scouring the area just outside of the dining hall with their buddy for the boarding Easter Egg Hunt. There were a range of eggs hidden all over the area and it was a lot of fun, all students left with their pockets bulging from the number of eggs they found.

Canoeing

On Saturday a group of nine Eclipse boys, Levi and myself canoed just over 14 kilometres. We launched the canoes at the bottom of the Luke Pen Walk and made our way up the Kalgan River until we reached the top of the walk trail. The paddle up the river was very entertaining. We had a short break at the top of the Luke Pen Walk trail where much fun was had swinging from the rope swing, before making our way back down the river again. The day was ideal and the views along the river were spectacular, it was the perfect way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Gym

Gym sessions have once again proven to be a popular weekend activity. Some of the boys didn’t get their full fix on Friday night and returned for another round on Saturday afternoon and again on Sunday. They have been really enjoying playing some social volleyball and badminton games.

Welcome Levi Cosh

I am very happy to welcome back GSG alumnus, Mr Levi Cosh. Levi has returned to Eclipse House as the new IRS (In-Residence Supervisor, previously Gap Assistant).

He has spent this week settling into the house and re-familiarising himself with the routines. The other boys have really enjoyed his presence in the house and his positive influence.

This has been a very busy and overall great start to the year. I have really enjoyed the energy and humour around the house brought by each of the boys. I am looking forward to the remainder of the year and the various events and activities we are planning for next term and hope that you all enjoy a much deserved break. As always, feel free to call or email me to discuss your son or any upcoming events, on 0448 125 919 or at brenton.rice@gsg.wa.edu.au
