1/2 News

Welcome back to School!

We’ve been having lots of fun being back with all of our friends! Check out some pictures of our first day back:

Seesaw

Your child's Seesaw is up and running, please refer to this for classroom announcements from your child's teacher and for work your child is completing in class. We encourage you to use this as a conversation starter when asking the children how their day went and what they are learning about.

Life Education

During Life Ed students learnt all about the importance of staying safe. They watched how Harold and his friends went camping and someone got injured while hiking. This module also helped children to problem solve and focus on recognising safe and unsafe environments, how to care for others, behaviours that maintain friendships and places and people who we can go to for help.

Michael Roster

Michael the Rabbit is very excited to be back in 1/ 2! Thank you to the families who looked after him over the holidays, we really appreciate it.

His weekend and holiday roster will be up on the door of each classroom from next week. A parent/guardian will need to come in and put their family name down beside the weekend/holiday you would like to have Michael. The available dates for each class will be highlighted on the roster. It will be first come first served.

Take Home Readers

Teacher’s will begin to send home readers out on the 14th of February . Three readers will be sent home with Grade 1’s and Five readers will be sent home with the Grade 2’s. Please make sure that you read with your child each night for 10-15 minutes and record it in the reading journal. Books are chosen each Monday, so reading pockets can stay at home until then and brought back in to change over the next week. Here are some helpful activities and questions to ask your child when reading with them .

Inquiry

This terms topic is 'Community'.  Students will be answering big questions like:

How do we work better together?

Why do more hands make light work in the community?

Where is my place in the Community?

How do I contribute to my school community?

How and what creates our Community?

Students will also have an opportunity to further explore our community in conjunction with the Sandringham ChalkFest 22! Talented artists - local, interstate and international will transform the footpaths of Sandringham Village to a spectacular pavement gallery over two days. On Saturday 26th March and Sunday 27th March 2022. On the last week of term students will contribute to our school community by completing their own chalk masterpieces and have a chance to walk around Sandringham to see the amazing contributions from the talented artists.  If you are free on the weekend of the 26th pop down and check it out for yourselves.

Respectful Relationships

Research shows that students who participate in rigorously designed and well-taught social and emotional learning programs demonstrate more positive social behaviour, are less likely to engage in risky and disruptive behaviour, and show improved academic outcomes. Our first topic for this year is Emotion Literacy and being able to identify what emotions we are feeling.
