This week we have started exploring different persuasive techniques in preparation for writing persuasive reports. Aristotle's "modes for persuasion" - otherwise known as rhetorical appeals - are known by the names of ethos, pathos and logos. They are means of persuading others to believe a particular point of view. They are often used in speech writing and advertising to sway the audience. Ethos (sometimes called an appeal to ethics) is used as a means of convincing an audience via the authority or credibility of the persuader, be it a notable or experienced figure in the field or even a popular celebrity. Here is a sales pitch for ASICS shoes, which uses Ethos to convince the buyer. This was written by Lucas C.
This week, the student’s entered the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest. This was an opportunity for the class to think creatively and design an automobile for the future. They had to be sensitive about materials, fuel and environmental footprint. Here are some fantastic designs by Stevie-Rose V. and Gus N.
This week, we have been working hard to complete our narrative stories using the 7 Steps writing techniques we learnt during Remote Learning. Our favourite technique was sizzling starts in which we used dialogue, onomatopoeia, started in the action and gave rich description. Here are some examples of the published books!
