Year 7 Poetry

POETRY

The Accelerated program has encouraged our Year 7 English ACE class to reflect, observe and sit with feelings of joy, anxiety and ambivalence during the turbulence of school closures. Our Poetry Analysis unit arrived at the perfect time where schools could finally open their arms eagerly to welcome students back. This Poetry unit fostered an understanding of the little things we appreciated during school closures. The year 7s wrote Haikus and free range poems about their connectedness with nature and the seasons which relapsed both slowly and rapidly during 2021.

Ignoring prying eyes

Walking home with very wet socks

Joy of rainy days

Sombre, vast, tranquil

I find solace in the sea

The waves crash once more

Autumn’s deadlines here

Crisp amber leaves fall downwards

Gently kissing earth.

The skies aflame with the rising sun,

slowly seeping up the hillside towards me.

Sitting by myself as I look into the sun,

As it dazzles against my green eyes,

Leaving sparks of gold that glimmer in the light.

I feel the sun warming my face,

So I press the button to capture the moment.

The perfect photo taken on the perfect hill,

On a perfect day.
