Student Voice

Student Voice being heard in every ESC classroom

ESC believes that student voice is a mechanism for personal development – helping to build confidence and prepare young people for roles in society. It can also provide an opportunity to engage and include students in the organisation of teaching and learning.

One way of advocating student voice is hearing their voices in the classroom. All teachers at the college are participating in PIVOT surveys which involves students completing a survey that asks them for feedback on the teaching and learning in the classroom. The teacher collaborates with students to share the positives of the survey as well as the challenges and together develop strategies to respond to the feedback. Students are then surveyed in cycle 2 to measure progress. This process enables student voice to be heard in the classroom as well as provide feedback to the class teacher to reflect and continuously improve in their teaching and learning. Certainly, a win win opportunity.
