Interact Club Report
Miss Jasmine Edgar (Year 10)
President of the Interact Club 2021
This year, the Interact Club created a focus regarding what we wanted to achieve by the end of 2021; that focus was sustainable service within our community.
We began the year with an information session, and when students were asked to officially sign up, we gained thirty six members. The following week, members voted for their preferred board committee leaders, and soon a total of eight board members were elected:
President | Jasmine E (Year 10) |
Vice President | Maddison C (Year 11) |
Secretary | Kaylah D and Stacie D (Year 10) |
Treasurer | Naz K (Year 10) |
International Project Coordinator | David N (Year 12) |
Local Project Coordinator | Mayasurin D (Year 7) |
Marketing Coordinator | Olivia H (Year 7) |
Staff Support | Ms Neophytou, Ms Heiniger |
In Term 1, our first event was in collaboration with Clean Up Australia, which tied together with our aim. On Friday 5 March, twelve Interact volunteers along with Ms Neophytou and Mr Ganci, cleaned up around our school’s creek, and the surrounding area. Our purpose was to create a long-lasting change in our environment and encourage others to clean up their local area as well.
In April, ten Interact members volunteered to sell ANZAC badges, keychains, and wristbands to staff and students from Prep to Year 12 to support ANZAC funds and spread awareness about the meaning behind the day and the reason why we donate to ANZAC organisations. Shortly after, we held a Membership Acknowledgement Presentation, where the students received their certificates and badges in recognition of their membership status.
Our most recent event was ‘Tree Planting Day, which was inspired by National Tree Day. On Friday 30 July, Interact volunteers joined our school’s environment monitors, Mr Ganci and Mr Hudson, to plant trees in a section of grass located near the Ring Road. Additionally, we made a commitment to supporting the student community with mental health, wellbeing and gratitude strategies.
The Interact Club have had lunchtime meetings every second Friday of the school week, which have consistently displayed strong attendance, engagement, and most importantly, enjoyment. Many students have stated that their favourite part of being an Interact Club member has been the friendships they have made and/or strengthened.
We are thankful for every Interactor’s contribution and the opportunity to work with our fellow Interact Club members in making a positive change within our community.
