Aristotle’s 12 Virtues

Sometimes we can learn from the ancient teachings of philosophers; Aristotle was one such philosopher who taught about what he considered to be the great virtues that allowed for humans to flourish. Aristotle was a Greek philosopher who believed that the function of a human was to engage in an activity of the soul. In order to live well, how virtues play out in our lives, how our upbringing and how our actions are supported by reasoned thinking determines our character and how we are regarded by others.

Aristotle saw the following 12 virtues as important.

However, too much of a virtue or too little could be problematic too. You could, for example, be brave or foolish, too shy or too boastful, generous or extravagant. For our students, having a set of values and morals to live by is an important part of the educational process.  Virtue is a habit that is acquired through practice in how we live our lives. Being honest, humble, respectful, hardworking, brave, generous and fair leads to being wise.
