Year 12 - Melbourne Cup Fundraiser

By The 2022 Leadership Team

On Tuesday the 2nd of November, the newly inducted Year 12 leadership team hosted the MCC Melbourne Cup Day. This was the first event in Year 12’s fundraising initiative, with all funds donated to St Vincent De Paul Society.

On the day, staff and the whole Year 12 cohort contributed a gold coin donation, arriving at school fit for a day at the races in their stylish Melbourne Cup attire. The junior students also joined in on the fundraising effort, bringing in a gold coin donation to wear their favourite hat or fascinator.

During lunch, the Year 12 leadership team and Mr Lawlor served a delicious sausage sizzle whilst some of our amazing prefects played some great tunes over the loudspeakers.

Throughout the week leading up to Melbourne Cup, Year 12 hosted a lolly jar guessing competition. In total, over 100 guesses were made. During recess, we congratulated Maree Di Fiore and Therese Romeo from Year 8 as the winners of the competition, who together made a winning guess of 946!

The Melbourne Cup was a wonderful start to the Year 12 cohort’s upcoming year of fundraising and activities. Not only did it provide an excellent opportunity for the leadership team to bond and collaborate for the first time, but was a terrific day for the whole school community.
