Assistant Principals News

Dear Parents and Guardians

This week our Year 12 students have commenced their HSC examinations. This year the students have had extra time to prepare due to Covid interruptions, this has allowed them to engage with extra tutorials and time with their teachers reviewing content and essential skills. We wish them all the very best and know that they will approach their exams with the same determination and resilience that they have displayed throughout the year.

Already students have completed their two English papers, Music and Modern History. I am pleased to share that students have reported that they were confident and content with the exam questions they received and their responses. Well done students!

Once the exams are complete we are excited to be able to host the Year 12 Graduation with parents/guardians in attendance. This celebration will allow the students and their families to recognise, with pride, their accomplishments over their thirteen years of schooling. Tickets have gone on sale via an online portal for students and parents/guardians and we look forward to celebrating together in 3 weeks time.

We are also excited to be able to host our incoming Year 7 students in our Oh! Day next Friday. Students will be given an opportunity to meet their Pastoral Leader, Mr Morris, experience Homeroom, the Peer Support Program and a range of Key Learning Areas, including Science, Technology, PDHPE Creative Arts, HSIE and English. We look forward to sharing these wonderful experiences with our new Marian family.

We are also pleased to share our strong NAPLAN 2021 results with our community. I am pleased to report that in 9 out of 10 of the domain areas MCC is again above average growth in both State and Statistically Similar Schools. This is clear evidence that some of the strategies and programs being implemented within the College over the last few years have had a positive impact on both staff and students. In particular, our Writing results for both Year 7 and Year 9 are outstanding, a testament to the ongoing work of our Leaders and staff in improving students in this area.

Staff are currently engaging in deeper analysis of the data to inform their preparation for 2022. Already, they have identified extending high achievers, student ownership over learning, spelling and numeracy application as areas to develop in 2022. We look forward to sharing more results and student improvement with our community next year.
