Principal News

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

Yesterday, on the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minutes' silence will be observed at the College. It is dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation. Originally it was set aside to remember the end of World War 1 and the fallen of this war, however, today Remembrance Day honours the loss of Australian lives from all wars and conflicts. My thanks to Mr Lyon, HSIE Leader of Learning and Student Leaders for organising this important occasion.

On Wednesday 3 November , 2022 College captains Claudia Torresan and Jayden Skirving accompanied me to a special mass at St Michael’s Cathedral, Wagga Wagga for the 200th anniversary of Catholic education within Australia. Our Bishop, Most Reverent Mark Edwards OMI, celebrated mass for those able to attend from across the diocese.

At the conclusion of the joyful occasion, Bishop Mark launched the CEDWW contribution to the Catholic education story by launching “Our Story-Sowing the Seeds from Generation to Generation”. Current CEDWW Direction of Education commented, “The story of Catholic schooling in the Wagga Wagga diocese is built on faith, determination, resilience in the face of adversity and hope. We reflect with gratitude for the past and look forward to an even more exciting future.” Marian Catholic College was presented with two copies of the book for our staff and students to enjoy.

This week the 2021 HSC examinations finally commenced on Tuesday November 9. The college had students sitting papers for English, Music and Modern History. The exams are all off site at the Bagtown Function Centre because of the building works alongside the Marcellin Hall and exams will continue until Friday, December 3. HSC results will not be published until January 24.  Please continue to keep them (and their families) in your prayers.

Our new 2022 Year 7 students join us once again for their Orientation Day (Oh! Day) on Friday 19 November. Fortunately, Covid 19 regulations have relaxed enough to permit this important day to continue more or less as it always has. It is a fun day with a full program of interesting classroom activities for our new students.

Peace and Best Wishes
