Year 12 Pathways

Congratulations to our wonderfully resilient Year 12 students on successfully completing 13 years of schooling and navigating two very difficult, highly stressful and challenging years; impacting learning, motivation, work, family and social connections and preventing milestone celebrations through significant and unpredictable times of change.  We are very proud of each of you and congratulate you on achieving the VCE Certificate!

All Year 12 students & students that have studied a Year 12 subject are encouraged to download the VTAC results and ATAR app.  https://resultsandatar.vic.edu.au/results/applicants.htm;?seexp

Prior to the release of the ATAR we recommend logging into your VTAC account to;

  • Test your VCAA number, VTAC ID & 4 digit pin are working
  • Double check you have paid & completed all course application requirements
Due to privacy laws, we are unable to provide your VCAA number over the phone or via email.  You must collect this in person either before 16th December or after 10am on this date.

The ATAR will be available online from 7am on Thursday 16th December 2021. This is a very important time of year for change of preferences and 2022 career paths aligning with your ATAR.  Please note in accordance with the VTAC terms and conditions, no discussions can be entered into with any school staff member until after 10am on this date.

If you have applied to VTAC for University or TAFE courses you can change your preferences until 4pm Monday 20th December 2021.  We highly recommend you log into your VTAC account and check your preferences, re-order and add preferences in-line with your ATAR or in accordance with tertiary letters advising results of: Interview, Folio, Audition or pre-selection test. Remember to be kind to yourselves!  The ATAR is not a score it is a ranking of all students across the State and is designed for tertiary entrance only.

The ATAR does NOT define you, your capabilities or prevent you from achieving your dreams in your desired pathway.  There are multiple pathway options to help you achieve your goals.

During the ATAR release, the pathways team will be available for further guidance or assistance.  This may include discussing preference ordering, researching relevant courses with other universities, possible future pathways courses via certificate, diploma, advanced diploma or uni-link courses.  Or alternative pathways; full time employment, apprenticeship/traineeship and applying for pre-apprenticeship courses. Whatever pathway suits you, we are here to support you!

Work Experience

Work experience participation is optional at VSC, however we strongly encourage all students aged 15yrs+ to get involved in this very beneficial and rewarding program.  Students can undertake Work Experience every year until they graduate VSC.

Work experience provides young people with a taste of the real world of work and a clearer understanding of a particular industry, field or business they may be interested in pursuing in the future.  It assists in career discovery and exploration, goal setting and decision making whilst preparing students for VCE or VCAL, future tertiary studies, apprenticeship/traineeships or full time work.

There are no designated time frames for students to complete placements as we believe a flexible delivery arrangement provides students with a better opportunity to meet the availability and operational time frames of businesses and industries within the community.  This also means we are not competing with other local schools which can limit student’s placement opportunities.

Placement dates are arranged through consultation and negotiation between the employer, school and student to maximise the experience.  However, if your young person is not going on the Central Australia to Darwin trip, they may want to consider the last week of Term 3 as the perfect opportunity to undertake work experience.

Drop into Pathways to discuss further and collect the ‘Preparing for the Workplace’ pack.

Career Development is the lifelong process of managing life, learning and work (paid and unpaid) over our lifespan.  The ability to make informed decisions, manage and transition through change for a personally determined future.

Young people build their career development through self-awareness; understanding how they make decisions and how these decisions impact future aspirations through exploration, identifying interests, values and preferred learning styles through careers exploration activities such as Morrisby in Year 9 and

Careers Fast Track in Year 10.  The ability to research a wide range of career options helping them to select subjects they may enjoy learning whilst aligning to tertiary course pre-requisite requirements in the future or apprenticeship/traineeship requirements and work.

Career development is further enhanced by juggling the expectations and requirements of school with extra-curricular activities like sport and family responsibilities, part-time work, community involvement and social interests.

To further assist your Career Development please visit vscpathways.com an easy to use interface with links to a multitude of career resources for both Students and Parents. We encourage all VSC students and their families to explore the Pathways website to assist in making positively informed decisions about their future.
