Year 9 Poetry Competition

Our Year 9 students participated in a poetry competition during remote learning, and all short-listed students were invited to read their poem to an audience of Year 9 students and VSC teachers on Wednesday 1st December.

The poems were personal and powerful, offering each poet's reflections on the experience of being locked down and learning from home.

Judging was exceptionally difficult given the quality of each and every poem, so congratulations to our winners!

Year 9 Farewell Poem

3 years ago you entered this school,

As grade six kids and pre-teens.

And after 12 long terms you are now year 10’s-

What a journey 2021 has been!

You climbed the heights and ate all the lollies,

In year 7 at Marysville on camp.

You swam and cheered your friends at swimming,

Where you ended up the champs.

You ran, jumped, and threw a discus,

At Athletics in Term one.

You did various sports like soccer or netball,

Well done to all of you that won.

You sang and danced in ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’,

And played in our famous school band.

You baked and raised money on Community Focus Day,

To the farmers – we gave a hand.

You excelled at ‘Night of the Readings’,

Where you read us a creative story.

You amazed for 2 years rehearsing 'Matilda',

Soon your talents will be seen in full glory.

You excelled in all your core subjects,

Plus, fun electives that were new.

You enjoyed fieldwork's out of the class,

Like Geography and Science at the zoo.

You have overcome great obstacles,

During Year eight and Year nine.

Online learning was our life in lockdown,

Where virtually we watched you shine.

We kept in touch through MS teams,

And supported you as best we could.

Thank you for all your hard work online -

We survived - and now hope for 'all good'!

So today we bid farewell to our Year 9’s,

And new SM's you will soon meet.

You have been an absolute pleasure to Student Manage,

And we know 2022 is going to be sweet!

We wish you all Happy Holidays,

And a well-deserved Summer Break.

Make sure you still say hello to us,

We look forward to more memories we can make.

Ms Allison - Year 9 Student Manager
