PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

What a wonderful way to end the year in 2020 with our Newsletter winning a national newspaper competition: the FRONT PAGE SCHOOL competition for the best newsletter in Years 7-9 category. This competition was open to all schools both public and private throughout Australia and our wonderful team, led by Ms Shannon Mcloughlin, was able to showcase the talent that we have here at Lake Illawarra High to claim a deserved result. Well done to our intrepid team!

I would also like to acknowledge our HSC students who will be receiving their results on 18/12/20. They have displayed remarkable resilience throughout 2020 with all of our students who had applied for early entry into UOW having been successful, while a number of students who have applied for apprenticeships and jobs also having been successful. This is a wonderful result and certainly highlights the determination that this wonderful group of young people have displayed throughout this year.

After a long 2020, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our students, staff, parents, and the Lake Illawarra High School community for their support throughout what has been a very unusual and challenging year. I am certainly hopeful that 2021 sees a return to what we would classify as “normal". I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and we are happy to everyone back in 2021.

DEPUTIES' DESK

Hello to all students, parents, carers and staff. Once again Term 4, 2020 had ended at a frantic pace and I am sure that all our staff and students were lookinging forward to a well-deserved break to recharge the ‘batteries’ to get ready for an exciting year of learning ahead, particularly after this crazy year we have just had!

We have had a busy term filled with many student achievements, but I would like to make a special mention to Ms Mcloughlin and the Student News Team for their outstanding achievement in being awarded the best middle school magazine in all of Australia!!!! Well done on such a fantastic achievement!!

In the last week of term 4, we had our Year 7 Orientation day and evening. It is always great to see exciting faces who are eager to take that big step to High School life. Thank you to all our staff who were involved in the day, your help in organising and running the lessons and activities is much appreciated.

The last Monday of Term 4 we hosted our school held our annual Presentation evening, which recognises the outstanding academic excellence and achievements of our students in 2020. The Presentation evening was again a very professionally organised and run event and I would like to thank Mrs Hudson and her team (Ms Velthius, Ms Barker, Ms Voorwindon, Ms Mitchell, Mr Plumb and Mr Thistlewaite) for their outstanding organisation for this event, well done.

Finally, I would like to wish all our families and Lake Learning community a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year. It is always a pleasure to work with you all in providing our kids the best opportunity for success and I look forward to working with you all in 2021. As always, if you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact myself or Mr Meizer at the school.
