Principal's Report

Principal's Report

‘As a collaborative community we take on the challenge of creating a culture where ambition meets excellence. This is a culture where students develop academically, socially and personally to become the best versions of themselves, through a focus on teaching about effort, learning and respect. In doing this, students will be actively engaged in their passions both inside and outside the classroom.’

Our Staughton Family is a vibrant interesting and diverse community. One of our strengths is the way we work together. This was strongly tested in 2020 and we rose to the challenge. I love being the principal of this school. I am really proud this year of how we have supported each other with connection, care and kindness.

In 2020 it has required extra commitment, organisation and reliance for students to stay on top of their learning this year. There are numerous examples of students who have shown, and developed, resilient personal characteristics during this time. This will hold them in good stead for the challenges they will face throughout their lives. Our students love spending time with their friends. It has been difficult for them to have spent so much time off site. I would like to commend them on how they have stayed connected to each other.

Our student leaders have been extraordinary this year. There have been many occasions when their videos to the community have lifted the spirits of students, teachers and parents. Kennedy Su’a Natty Anderson, Hayley Aguila and Danzle Kavana have shown symbolic and practical leadership at a high level. I sincerely thank them and all of the student leaders in the school.

There have been many families that have being doing it tough throughout this year. Even under this pressure parents and carers have been enormously supportive of the school and our students. We understand how difficult it can be when children are learning at home. Many of our staff have personal experience of this in their own homes. When our staff rang every family in Term 3 we really appreciated how everyone just wanted to work together to support our students. This is what makes us a strong community.

We have fantastic teachers and educational support staff at Staughton College. They have demonstrated their passion and care for our students learning and wellbeing throughout this year. Their sustained effort has been monumental. They have been truly inspirational. The thing that gives them the greatest reward is when they see our students achieving. We have seen many examples of this in 2020.

Our Senior Management Team have shown extraordinary leadership this year. Assistant Principals Daniel Xuereb, Kristy Herridge and Natasha Berry, our leading Teachers and Learning Specialists have worked tirelessly to keep everyone connected and all of our systems going as we have moved in and out of online learning.

Finally I would like to personally thank everyone across our community for your support for me throughout this time. It has meant even more than normal this year.
