Year 6 Thanksgiving Mass
Tuesday morning’s Year 6 Thanksgiving Mass was a beautiful occasion. It was disappointing to not have families with us on such an important occasion – the end of primary school really is a marker along life’s path, isn’t it? – but in a strange way, it was very special to have the chance to have just the students and teachers together in the College Chapel to mark the event.
I wish to thank the students in particular for the spirit in which they approached this solemn occasion. Fr Jack, as always, brings so much humanity and wisdom to our special events. Special thanks go to Mrs Young, the Junior School REC, for her organisation of this event.
Junior School Student Leadership Team for 2021
At this Friday’s College Assembly the Junior School student leadership team for 2021 will be announced to the students and teachers. Following this I will send a formal letter to Junior School parents. This is an exciting moment for those students; let us celebrate with them and their families.
I would like to thank all families and community members who offered prayers for the students as they discerned a call to leadership, put themselves forward for consideration, prepared and presented their speeches, and stood before the judgement of their peers in an election. What admiration I have for these young men! Unfortunately, some of these truly good people will be disappointed as they have missed out on a position. Let us now hold these young people in our prayers and encourage them to keep letting their lights shine.
Special thanks to Ms Davidson for her organisation of the student leadership selection process.
Academic Excellence Awards
Congratulations to the following Junior School students who were presented their Class Academic Excellence Awards at their last Pastoral Care Period for the year. We are all extremely proud of you.
Special thanks to Mr Fields for his organisation of these awards.

Junior School Classes for 2021
A reminder for those continuing families, and a notice for the first-timers, that Junior School class placement and teacher placement is announced on the first day of the new school year for students. On this day students should arrive to the Junior School yard and Powell Pavilion as normal, and each class list will be announced after the morning bell.
With Gratitude and Best Wishes
Many thanks to each person who has been part of the life of the Junior School this year. Yes, it has been a strange one in many ways, but there have been a great many blessings too, and for these I am grateful. Who knows what the holidays and the new year will bring? I look forward to travelling again in 2021 with those who continue in the Junior School. For those whose time with us is now completed, go well! I hope the Junior School has been a life-giving place for you and your family and I wish you all the best.
In closing, I wish you all the very best for this Advent and Christmas seasons. Our seasonal celebrations this year may look and feel somewhat different from those we are accustomed to, but I hope these differences can draw us closer to the heart of each season.
Live Jesus in our hearts – forever!

Selfless Silence and Mission Mass
The students raised $21,494.25 for three organisations.
This year the Junior School has had many fundraising events, one such event being Selfless Silence which was held on Wednesday 4 November. Selfless Silence was a vow by students and teachers to reflect on the struggles of those less fortunate and to evoke a sense of gratitude for the blessings in their own lives. This happened over the course of 2 periods, where not even the teachers would speak. The students raised $21,494.25 for three organisations, with these charities being Chetanalaya, St Edmunds College Wahroonga and Catholic Mission. How did it work? At the start of the day, in the Powell Pavilion, Mr Munday read out a list of vows for the students and teachers to agree to. At the end of every vow, everyone would say ‘I do’ and at the end of the list of vows, each person could no longer speak until the start of recess, where Mr Munday would lift the vows put upon the students and teachers.
For the teachers to communicate to the children without speaking, many relied on technology, by typing the day on the projector, though some wrote questions and answers on paper and on the whiteboard. Apart from this, the day was quite the same as any other, as the work remained mainly the same, and behaviour was outstanding. Overall, the experience was great, and the teachers finally got a break from the noise of children in their day-to-day lives for two hours. This event was culminated with Mission Mass which was celebrated in the Chapel with all of Year 5 and 6.
