Year 7 Service Day (2024)

Let’s take a moment to rewind a couple of months to the final week of school. Feedback tasks had all been completed, reports had been written, Christmas celebrations and events had begun and everyone was gearing up for a busy Christmas season and then the long-awaited summer holidays.
During this week, the Year 7 teachers decided this would be the perfect time to run a completely new program – engaging our students in a variety of service projects in our school and community.
With a lot of planning and a huge team effort from the staff, students were given the opportunity to select from the following service projects:
- Singing Christmas carols and performing a drama at two local aged care facilities, spreading festive cheer.
- Performing various maintenance tasks around the school, including gardening, bus washing, moving furniture, and tidying classrooms.
- Assisting as student helpers in Prep, Junior Primary, and Primary Art classes.
Supporting the school office with essential tasks.
- Creating beautiful nativity sets for each Prep student to take home as a gift, celebrating Christmas and their first year of school at MECS.
- Preparing and cooking soup, salads, and desserts for a local community meal, providing nourishment for those in need.
The students’ engagement and enthusiasm in these projects went well beyond our expectations. They demonstrated incredible teamwork, kindness, and commitment to serving their neighbours. The students took great joy in serving others, in discovering new gifts and developing new skills.
It was a fantastic way to end the school year and to share God’s love with others.
