Dear families

Welcome back to a brand new school year.

The staff have worked hard over the holidays to get their classrooms ready and welcoming for another academic year.

The leadership team have met over the holidays and have planned some new initiatives for 2021.

I hope that you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday.

It was so lovely to welcome parents back to St Louis this morning and to meet so many parents face to face.

Our prep students settled in so well and loved their new learning space.

Today we welcomed 7 new staff. They will all add a great deal of enthusiasm and knowledge to our staff.

Mrs Anna Kolodziej in Gr 2

Mrs Eva Traynor in Gr 2

Mr Brendan Ellul in Gr 5 and PE

Mrs Wendy Merten - Environmental Science

Mrs Marylene Douglas - Religious Education leader and Gr 5/6 lead learner.

Mr Michael Elliott- ICT support.

Ms Sarah Mc Dermott is on long service leave for this term and Mrs Tanya Stefanec will be acting Deputy Principal alongside Mrs Michelle Barron.

From Monday, for the next 2 weeks, there will be no parking on the playground and we will continue with the drop off and pick up routine that was in place during 4 term. This will be reviewed after the 2 weeks to see if we will continue this or revert back to the parking on the basketball courts. This subsequently means that the zebra crossing on the basketball court is not in use. We need to ensure the safety of all. Parents are welcomed to come into the school but not into the classrooms or hallways.

Thank you to the PFA for the lovely morning tea that was provided to the 2021 prep parents this morning. It was great to see so many gathered in the hall.

The Parent handbook will be published next week as we are still waiting for dates from the parish, sporting facilities and camps.

2021 will see the Garden to Kitchen program for grades 3 and 4. These students will have an hour lesson a week with Mrs Merten. Mrs Crisp and Frank Overberg will support Wendy in the garden and the kitchen. Classroom teachers will be encouraged to go to the kitchen and garden and give the students the opportunity to be in these fantastic spaces. Frank will be full time this year and he will be available to support the classroom teachers, out in the garden.

Gr 5 and 6 students will have STEM lessons for an hour a week with Mr Thomson and their class teacher.

Grade 4 students will be working their way through a chromebook license and will use chromebooks instead of ipads for their learning for the next 3 years.

Enjoy your weekend. Try and stay dry.

kind regards

Carmel
