Principal's Report

Welcome to all returning and new families to Langwarrin Primary School.

We have been working hard throughout January to ensure our school year starts off as smoothly as possible, goals and targets are clear for all teachers and expectations are well established to ensure the year runs well.

Preps 2021

It was wonderful to see our newest students start on Monday.  It’s such a significant day for a family to see their child begin the next journey of their life.  It was nice to meet many of you and I trust your child had a great first few days at LPS. We hope this is a 7 year journey for you – with us!

Focus

As a school we will be having a strong focus on numeracy, in particular students establishing strong basic number skills and improving their ability to apply them into real life problem solving.  Julie Shepherd (our reading consultant) will return to work alongside our teachers to ensure best practice when teaching reading is happening across the school.

Tutoring Program

Our tutoring program will start in the next 2 weeks.  Mr Roberts, Mrs Hollier and Mrs Doughty have been working with teachers to utilise the DET criteria to identify students eligible for tutoring.  The DET criteria is largely based on students whose assessment data shows less growth than they should have made.  This means children at all academic levels are eligible for tutoring.

If your child has been selected for reading or numeracy intervention in Term 1, you will be contacted by your child’s allocated tutor with further information.

DET have funded our school to run tutoring for the first two terms however, we are able to utilise some extra school funds to extend this program for the whole year.  This means more students will get additional support outside the classroom.

School Operations

In the morning: Please sign in or use our QR code if coming onto the school site.  This is a mandatory requirement for schools and I ask that everybody follow the correct process.

In the afternoon: If you have already signed in (morning) you do not need to sign in again. If the afternoon is your first time onsite please sign in.

The school gate will open at 3.20pm for parents to make their way to meet their children.  Please do not come onsite before this time unless attending the office.

If just attending the office:  You do not need to sign in.

I appreciate the way we ran drop off and morning pick up (throughout the 2020 year) was so much more functional than what happens regularly.  Unfortunately with restrictions easing this is impossible for us to continue to do this.  Staggered finishes that allowed pick up to be much smoother are no longer required so all students are dismissed at 3.30pm.

I appreciate your understanding, patience and support with pick up and drop off.

Student Toilet Facilities:

Just a reminder that student toilets are for LPS students only.  If you are onsite requiring a toilet (or your toddler) you are most welcome to use the office toilet.  Just come to the office!

Have a great week,

Mark Moorhouse
