2021 - a new year with exciting possibilities
Welcome back to all students, staff and our families. I hope that everyone enjoyed the holiday break and like me, you were able to catch up with family and friends over the Christmas period and January.
The school year started with two Staff Development Days where our staff of 89 permanent and temporary staff worked together to further build on our skills and expertise to best support students.
With 130 students starting the year we are off to a great start with students settling into their new classes very quickly after the holidays. In the section "Inside the classroom" the stage leaders have outlined the classes and staff for each year. A list of staff is also available on our school website.
Our School Leader's Induction Ceremony, will be held next Friday in the hall. This is a special time where students are presented with their badges and take up the responsibility of leading the school with me. The School Leaders for 2021 are:
School Captains: Tyrese Ah See and Sasha Wilson
School Vice-Captains: Joshua Whitehead and Anouk Salmon
Senior Leaders: Bailey Dwyer, James Thomas, Riley Dauvin, Payton Craw
and Aaliyah Vangarden
Junior School Captains: Marcus Bragg and Brock Jackson
Junior Leaders: Kaleb Fischer and Tabatha Beattie
House Captains
Dwyer: Shane King
Fearnley: Sophie Eleftheriou
Murphy: Trae Boney
Southwood: Hugh Dickerson
Unfortunately due to COVID restrictions we are unable to invite our entire school community, but parents of the new Leadership team will be able to attend with a morning tea following the ceremony.
I have outlined in the next section of the newsletter, Anson in Review the changes that have occurred or will be happening over the next few months. This is an exciting time as we consolidate and complete many projects that have been started over the past few years.
This year has also been a time of great excitement as we welcome seven excellent practitioners to our permanent team of employees. In the Spotlight On... section you will be able to read more about our new staff.
It is wonderful to have Mrs Selina Sutherland (nee Harlum) safely back in Australia following her teacher exchange to Canada. I'm sure when Mrs Sutherland left us last year she never anticipated the year she would have. In our next issue, Mrs Sutherland will talk about her experiences during a COVID year in Canada.
This term we will be finalising our new School Improvement Plan for the next four years ready for implementation in term 2. I hope you take the opportunity to provide feedback and new ideas to help us focus on continuous improvement.
I look forward to working with you throughout the year to ensure that your child is happy, enjoys school and continues to grow and learn each day.
