ConnecTED Learning
Year 7 Religious Education, as a component of ConnecTED Learning, has enjoyed a smooth transition into classes this week. We commenced our unit, Initiation and Belonging with a Liturgy themed, ‘Seeking God’; highlighting the blessings of this new year and encouraging our students to seek the goodness of God throughout their lives. Students offered special intentions at the commencement of the Liturgy and led the Prayers of the Faithful. They demonstrated wonderful engagement through their reverence, respect and response, signifying their commitment to our faith community.
God of new beginnings,
you created the world so that we would journey with you and to you.
In Jesus Christ you gave us the pathway to travel.
Help us to be open to your presence within our lives,
and to recognise your face in all those we meet.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
During the reflection time we encouraged the students to contemplate the nature of God, who is provident, nurturing and protecting. God is ready to embrace us when we are lost and searching. But what does it mean to truly “seek God”?
Don’t you think it’s ironic…
…that we can easily spend $100 when we go shopping…
But we think twice about giving that much money to a charity?
…or that an hour can go so quickly when we’re watching a favourite TV show or movie.
Yet an hour feels so long when we go to Mass?
Or that it’s easy to hear and repeat gossip,
…but so difficult to share what we know and understand about God?
We seem quick to believe what we see and hear through social media and advertising,
...but we can be quick to question what is in the Bible?
We can talk to our friends for hours,
…but find it so hard to use the “right” words to use when speaking to God?
In our lives, how do we seek God rather than seeking our own will?
Mrs Bright, Mrs Walker, Mrs Streckfuss, Mrs Gill and Ms Cramp are all looking forward to getting to know and work with Year 7 students in their classes this year.
