ConnecTED Learning

Year 7 have had a fantastic start to their time at Mater Dei with a successful transition program. Students have learnt how to use their computers, created some awesome WeVideos during a tutorial, had the opportunity to get to know each other with a range of games and activities and just generally got used to our new environment with the support of senior students and teachers.
In ConnecTED Learning, students study three subjects—English, HSIE (History and Geography), and Religious Education. TED gives us the amazing opportunity to work collaboratively across expert teams to create a rigorous, relevant and engaging learning experience for our Year 7 students.
In TED classrooms the focus is on learning experiences that use a ‘Guided Inquiry’ approach. This means that students are guided through learning with a mix of engaging activities to open them to the topic, moving on to explicit instruction and learning activities to provide them with enough knowledge to ask questions and explore ideas that are interesting to them using a student-directed approach.
Their inquiry leads them to use the information they gather through the entire process to create a product that showcases their learning; this can take many different forms depending on the task and expectations. In order to reach this point, students are taught how to use self and peer assessment, as well as teacher feedback to improve their work during the learning process and also to reflect on and evaluate their learning.
We would love parents and carers to encourage your children to share with you what they are doing and talking about in TED, what ideas they may have had an opportunity to share with or learn from their community of fellow Year 7 students. We really look forward to working with Year 7 and are excited for the learning to come!
