Tournament of Minds

The Tournament of Minds

report by Amelia Gill

In the second week back all of the Year 7 & 8 students actually performed their ‘Tournament of Minds’ project. Some were more formal, some funny and some theatrical.  All of the groups had a set time of ten minutes and under to set up, perform and clean up.

The nerves gathered and made setting up quick, but also a little more difficult. The ‘Tournament of Minds’ could become tricky at times because of the group work and who is doing what could become a little frustrating but the end product for all groups I bet, was great. After it was over, I have a feeling everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Tom, Tyler and Finn created a short stop motion movie to show what happened to the plane and passengers on the plane for their ‘The Great Expedition.’ My group included Maddy, Miranda, Em, Ella and myself. We did ‘The Test of Times’ which was the same as lots of other groups. Our setting was when Captain Phillip and The First Fleet invaded Australia. We used Didgeridoos to show who were Aboriginals, a pirate hat to show who was Captain Phillip and a small piece of cardboard with waves along the bottom to show the boat travelling through the water.

Some other groups doing ‘The Toy’ like Emily, Ella, Sophie, Beth, Natasha and Darcy kind of used a news set up to show of their toy. Overall, there were many different and interesting ways that different groups performed, but they were all great.

The ‘Tournament of Minds’ was an awesome learning experience and a great way to play with your creativity and imagination, as well as build on your teamwork skills. I wonder what the groups will perform next time…
