Olympic Fever Hits St Pius X College

The Olympic Games has now begun in Rio De Janieiro and we will be cheering those athletes to go faster, jump higher and be stronger!

At our Olympic Assembly on Monday we gave a huge cheer and sang the National Anthem in support of our Australian Olympic team. There was a parade of flags brought into the Assembly to a fanfare.

We pray for the success of all our athletes and for the people of the world to unit in peace and the spirit of Olympic competition.

The word ASPIRE is so important to the Australian Olympic team as it stands for team values.  These values are also important in our lives here at St Pius X College.

ATTITUDE:  Lord give us a positive attitude to life but when we are down, cheer us on and help us to get up and start over.

SPORTSMANSHIP:  Lord may we promote fairness in the sports we play, accept loss graciously and acknowledge the success of others.

PRIDE:  Lord help us to take pride in our talents and use them for the good of others.

INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY:  Lord we are responsible for our own actions and success.  Give us the strength to achieve our goals.

RESPECT:  Lord may we always respect and be thankful for the people who give of themselves so we can succeed in life.

EXPRESS YOURSELF:  Lord thank you for all the opportunities we are given to show who we truly are.

A reminder to the College Community that this is a Holy Day of Obligation.  OLD Parish will have the usual 9am and 12.15pm weekday masses but will also have an extra mass at 7.30pm on this day.

We pray that the experience of pilgrimage has been spiritually transformational for all our pilgrims.  Pope Francis, or 'Papa Francesco', as he was affectionately called, challenged all youth to leave the couch, take risks and find their faith through life experience and action.

In his Homily at the final Mass Pope Francis said, "At times in our lives, we aim lower rather than higher.  At those times, it is good to realise that God remains faithful, even obstinate, in his love for us.  The fact is, he loves us even more than we love ourselves.  He believes in us even more than we believe in ourselves.  He is always 'cheering us on'; he is our biggest fan."
