Learning Support

& Enrichment

New location for the LSE Department

  • Distribution of Learning Profiles and Individualised Plans
  • Touch Typing and Handwriting Course
  • After-School Study (Previously 'Homework Help')

The LSE Department has begun distributing learning profiles and individualised plans to teachers of identified students with diverse learning needs.

As many will recall, LSE at St Pius X has been undergoing change during 2016, when the Learning Support and Enrichment Department increased its staff to form a larger team with closer links to the Junior School, in order to broaden its scope to support students and work with teachers across Year 5 to Year 12. We have been making extensive use of our new office space and shared meeting room next door, and have begun holding our CPMs (collaborative planning meetings) with students, parents and staff there.

If your son is not identified as a student with needs as yet, and you wish to inform me and my team so that we can provide some support or confidential information to teachers, please do email Joanne, Coordinator of Learning Support and Enrichment, at JRahebMol@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au

If your son is already identified by the LSE team because we have information on his support or gifted/enrichment needs, but you have updated information - then please do keep us informed of developments  by confidentially sending in any updated documents on your son’s needs to JRahebMol@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au. Please note that the information is kept in accordance with the College Privacy policy, and is held by LSE not to distribute in its original form, but to update and confidentially inform only your son’s teachers in 2017. This occurs through our updating of your son’s student learning profile or IP, with the aim of ensuring that your son’s teachers have the most useful adjustment summaries as possible.

Similarly, if you think your son in Years 5-12 may be eligible for exam and assessment provisions on the basis of an impactful diagnosed condition, please email your questions and documents direct to Joanne, Coordinator of Learning Support and Enrichment, at JRahebMol@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au

If your son is an identified student with needs, you may also wish to contact the specific IP Convenor for his particular year group with other concerns and queries, on the school phone number (02) 9411 4733), or via email, as follows:

For Semester 1 2017 the LSE contact points for parents/ carers, staff and students, are as follows:

After-School Study

BEGINS THIS WEEK!

From 2017 onwards, After-School Study has replaced the previous Homework Help Program, and now provides broader opportunities for all students in Years 5-10 to study independently or receive assistance in order to complete homework, assignments, and assessments tasks in all subject areas. The Senior Library is the ideal space where students can enjoy the peaceful surrounds, plan for tomorrow’s schedule, read books, do research, catch up on missed work, or get a head start on homework, without pressure or distractions. Ms Raheb-Mol and Mrs Leonardi are on hand, to provide assistance and proof-reading advice for those students who would like help with their work in English, Maths, Science and a range of other subjects. This includes assistance in literacy, reading and writing skills, grammar, essay-writing, numeracy skills including mentals and problem-solving, as well as organisation skills and exam revision strategies such as memory techniques and note-making skills.

  • WHAT: This after-school program operates all year round, and starts in Week 2 of each school term
  • WHO: All students in Years 5 - 10
  • WHERE: Senior Library, top of A Block (SRC). Library seminar rooms are also available.
  • WHEN: Each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3.15pm - 4.30pm

NO NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT - Students may attend regularly or on a ‘drop-in’ basis. Students are welcome to attend on one or more than one afternoon per week, and students with regular attendance will receive merits for the time and effort they put in.

REFERRALS ARE WELCOME FROM PARENTS OR TEACHERS

Please direct any queries about the After-School Study Program to Ms Joanne Raheb-Mol, LSE Coordinator, via phone (02) 94114733, or email: JRahebMol@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au
