Basketball

Thank you to all those parents who helped score on the weekend. Games cannot run without parents helping. Please offer your help to the coach or the referees.

On Saturday the heat and humidity made the courts wet and dangerous during the games. We suspended play and unfortunately had to cancel the 15A game. We put the big fans on, raised the center curtain and the conditions improved significantly. All other games ran as scheduled.

This Saturday it will be hot again. All players need to make sure they drink water well before their game and to remain hydrated during their game.

Game time changes: The 14B, 15B, 17D and 4ths game times have been changed from my original plan. The 4ths will be playing at 10:00am. The 15Bs will be playing at 11:00am. The 14Bs will be playing at 12:00noon and the 17Ds will play at 2:00pm.

15A note: I have organised with Central Coast Grammar to play early on Saturday 18th

February at Oxford Falls so that the 15As can then travel to Strathfield to play St Patrick’s. I will publish times for these games next week.

Cricket

1st XI 4/265 (L Hearne 131, T Colgan 58, L Williams 26*) defeated St Andrew’s Cathedral School 10/53

(L Mosman 3/8, S John 2/1, D Beattie 2/18) at St Andrew’s College Sydney University

After a six week break since Round 6, the 1st XI recommenced the ISA competition with a resounding victory over St Andrews Cathedral School. Having been sent in openers, Tom Colgan and Joe Unwin started steadily. The second wicket partnership between Colgan (58) who made his first half century in the 1st XI and Lachlan Hearne (131 off 106 balls) was full of sensible batting and the ability to put away the loose balls. This was Hearne’s second century for the competition and his concentration in the tiring conditions was very impressive.

Liahm Williams (26 not out) helped the team reach an imposing 4 for 265 after the 50 overs. With the heat and humidity rising, the St Pius boys were determined to have a quick over rate and bowl at the stumps consistently. For most of the opposition innings, this plan was kept to and after 33 overs St Andrews was dismissed for 53. Louis Mosman (3-8), Dermott Beattie (2-18 off 10 overs), Sam John (2-1)  and James Brown (1-6) led the way with the ball and were backed up by a good catch from Williams, sharp keeping from Tim Robertson and two run outs.

This was a pleasing start to 2017 from the team who were focussed on putting together a strong performance.

All parents are welcome to come and support the SPX Senior Swimming Squad.
