Students attend TAFE initiative
Twelve Year 10 Cowra High students have taken the opportunity to explore life after school during Term 4. An initiative of TAFE Western, the Youth Engagement Strategy is an eight session program on Fridays that allows students to participate in a range of courses offered at the Cowra campus. This taste of TAFE will give the students a chance to identify areas of interest and set goals for future direction.
The first session gave an insight into career pathways and employability skills. Students also participated in numerous teamwork activities. This was followed by two weeks in the kitchen and exposure to the hospitality industry where students baked chocolate fudge brownies, sausage rolls, hamburgers, meatball subs, scones, pikelets and red velvet cupcakes. They also whipped up milkshakes and smoothies impressing all with their cooking skills.
Last week Aboriginal culture was showcased and students developed an understanding of the symbols used in traditional Indigenous artwork and they worked collaboratively to produce a beautiful painting for the school.
