Year 12 Biology students with all of their amazing models with teacher, Miss Ali

Mixing it up in Bio!

Year 12 have been working tirelessly through the HSC Biology course, however to mix thing up a bit some creative ingenuity had to be incorporated into the next assessment task! Producing 1m x 1m 3D models to demonstrate Protein Synthesis: Transcription and Translation, Year 12 students have impressed not only the Biology teachers (Miss Ali, Mrs Armitage and Mr Chandler) but those of the school's executive staff.

We are all thoroughly impressed with the cohort, at their knowledge of such a complex Biological process AND the inventiveness to their creativity. To showcase the wonders of their works, a small exhibit was held during class time for students to present their work. There were models that had fairy lights, magnifying glasses, pop-up books, mobile features, Pacman inspired arcade game, Claymation, turntables and more!

Thank you to Ms Mandalakoudis, Mrs James, Mr Lane and Mr Sutton for taking the time out to appreciate the models. Year 12 have worked extremely hard and should be commended on their efforts. Who ever thought Science, Technology and Art would be such a great mix!

“It was hard work but the end result was worth the effort”- Jordan Scully

“Lots of failed attempts and teachers, but it was a refreshing break from regular assignments” – Natasha Knezevic and Jordan Nikolaros

“The project was fun and doable because there were steps to follow the process. The time limit made it stressful!” – Susanna Sat

“Overall, everyone enjoyed the process of making the models with the aid of our fantastic teachers. We were able to combine the creativity with the in-depth knowledge of science to create our amazing models!” – Jennifer Chhun, Julie Nguyen-Le, Nicky La, Michelle Tang, Samantha Nance-Palmer and Marvina Moul

“The process was extremely therapeutic and fun!”- Stefania Miceli

“It was an absolute pleasure to see what the students produced. If you were my teacher when I was a student, I think I would have really enjoyed Science!!! Great work! Well done to you and the students.” – Mrs James,  Deputy Principal (a special thank you to Mrs James for utilising her amazing photography skills to get ALL of the models from Miss Ali’s class in one photo).
