An insight into the homeless

Ms Schell with Year 12 CAFS at Wayside Chapel, Kings Cross

Wayside Chapel

On Monday, 21 May - Year 12 Cecil Hills High School CAFS (Community and Family Studies) students visited The Wayside Chapel - this included a tour around Kings cross by Rob. Rob gave us an insight on what homeless people go through on a day to day basis and showed us how they seek shelter on the street. As a team, we decided to donate living essentials such as blankets and hygiene necessities. Wayside Chapel does not charge a cent for anyone who walks in. They provide a fresh towel and toothbrush so that they are not using a pre-used item. They are also able to walk in whenever, as they are always welcomed. The wayside chapel changed our perceptions on homeless people by making us realise the struggles that people who are homeless experience daily. This enabled us to empathise with them as many are homeless at a young age and often don’t have the support to change their circumstance. This also allowed us to appreciate what we have and the people around us.
