Prayer

Palm Sunday

In our prayer today we look forward to the most significant season in the Church Calendar - Holy Week.  The week commences with Palm Sunday.

They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna!"

"Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!"

"Blessed is the king of Israel!" John 12:13

In each of the gospels, we find the story of Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem.  The people cut palm branches and waved them in the air, then laid them out on the ground before Him as He rode into the city. The palm branch is known to represent goodness and victory, symbolic of the final victory He would soon fulfil over sin and death.

But no one knew the full story then. They had no idea what would soon transpire…

They just knew, at that moment, on that day, they longed to give worship and praise to Jesus.

And so we to do the same here and now.

Let us pray:

All powerful, eternal God,

You have chosen to give mankind a model of humility;

Our Saviour took on our flesh, and subjected Himself to the Cross.

Grant us the grace to preserve faithfully the lessons

He has given us in His Passion and to have a share in His resurrection.

This we ask of You, through Lord Jesus Christ, your Son.

St Pius X:  Pray for us

Live Jesus in our Hearts:  Forever

Greetings From Mr Couani

In preparing for this week’s Woodchatta, I thought it might be good to send a message of affirmation to all students, parents and staff for the past week. My sincere thanks to everyone in the College community.

Online Learning

The new world of online learning has certainly seen students and teachers learn a different way of interacting and progressing the study program for each course and each student. We are concerned that some students may not be engaging well with this mode of learning and I encourage any parent who has concerns to contact their son’s Year Coordinator, Homeroom teacher or subject teacher as appropriate to the situation and we will endeavour to work through any issues. Equally our College Counsellors are available to you and your son.

Below are a few snaps of our students working online.

Online Learning Survey

On Friday the College will send all students, parents and staff a survey asking you to reflect upon the experience of online learning this term and offering suggestions for Term 2 or any future online delivery.

The Survey will open on Friday 3 April and close on Wednesday 8 April.

Monday Morning Home Room Assembly - 8.40 am

There will be an Assembly on Monday morning at 8.40 am for all students, albeit virtually online, in your Homeroom Team, and students need to be attentive to the learning and well being instructions for Week 11.

Mrs Emma Fryar

Mrs Fryar is one of our teachers new to the school this year and she is making a great impact with her classes. This year she is teaching Year 7-11 English classes. Unfortunately Mrs Fryar was admitted to hospital as her appendix ruptured and she is recovering in ICU presently. She is making a good recovery but will probably be in hospital for another week. When I spoke with Mrs Fryar she said that she is missing her family and really wishes she could get back to school soon! Please keep Mrs Fryar in your prayers. Get well soon Mrs Fryar!

Year 12 Assessments

Over the final days of this week and into next week, there are a number of Year 12 assessments and these will need to be completed as per the directions of the subject teachers as published to each Year 12 student. I encourage any parents or Year 12 students with concerns to contact the Year 12 Coordinator Ms Janes at djanes@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au or the relevant subject teacher.

Interim Reports

All Year 5 and 6 student Interim Reports have been posted home and if you did not receive your son’s report, please contact Mr Tim Long tlong@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au.

The Year 7-11 student Interim Reports are currently being completed and will be posted to the Portal early next week.

Financial Matters

The College Board is currently reviewing the school’s finances for the 2020 school year and in the first instance I certainly extend the College’s complete understanding of the financial circumstances that are being faced by many in our school community.

Last week I forwarded to parents a letter from Dr Wayne Tinsey, Executive Director of EREA on 26 March 2020 which stated that:

“I would like to assure you that no student will be denied a Catholic education in the Edmund Rice tradition due to inability or reduced capacity to pay school fees and costs.”

The College is committed to ensuring this occurs.

If you need to alter your card payment or defer your school fee payment please email the College Business Manager ncarson@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au advising us of the changes you require.

If you wish to discuss your personal situation and make a new arrangement, all you need to do is contact me through my email address jcouani@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au and I will arrange an opportunity to confidentially discuss these matters with you.

Closing Date for Enrolments now extended

Due to the COVID-19 situation, we have now extended the closing date for 2022 enrolments to Monday 1 June 2020.
