Year 9 Outdoor Education

Surf Camp

On Thursday, 28th March, thirty Year 9 students ventured down to Anglesea with Mr Kilroy, Ms Alfieri and Ms Koroneos for a two day adventure.

Day 1 was marked with beautiful sunny skies which were perfect for surfing. For many, this was their first experience of surfing; regardless, a large amount of fun was had by all. There were plenty of stacks and crashes as well as many smiling faces as individuals began to conquer the art of surfing. Gypsy was just one of many with a beaming smile.

In the evening we settled into camp life using trangia’s to cook our dinner. Two minute noodles were popular among many and I don’t think we can ever forget Drazo’s excitement at being able to cook his own pasta.

After dinner there was more fun to be had on the beach with various activities including soccer, handstands, and star gazing. Students were quick to point out the Southern Cross and it didn’t take long before it was time to head back to camp to settle in for the night.

Day 2 brought a different kind of challenge to our students, a 9km hike. After fueling up for the day with breakfast and packing up our campsite, we began our trek. The walk commenced with rolling hills and gorgeous views of the cliffs and beach below before progressing to a steady 6km along the beach.

Despite many finding the walk challenging, there was little complaining and everyone enjoyed their time hanging out with friends and experiencing this wonderful coastal environment.

Much appreciation goes out to Ms Koroneos for joining Mr Kilroy’s and Ms Alfieri’s Year 9 Outdoor Education classes on camp and we are all looking forward to our next adventure – rock climbing!
