Lawn Bowls - SSV State Champions

In the recent SSV Senior Lawn Bowls competition, our very young team - Alisha George Year 10; and Emiliee Davies and David George, both from Year 7, bowled supremely well to win the State title against a much older and experienced opposition.

We defeated Nathalia 7-3 and Balwyn 9-1; and lost to Kyneton 5-9. The team qualified 2nd in their pool to make the cross over semi-final against Yarrawonga, the top of the other pool. They won by an impressive 10-4. This saw them playing against Cobden Tech, the 2018 champions, where they broke away early in the final to a 12-4 lead. Cobden came back hard but we hung on to win the Victorian title 12-11.

What a terrific effort by such a young team in really difficult weather conditions.

School Sport Victoria Sporting Blues Award

Year 11 student, Arleah Hunt, recently received the SSV Blues award at a gala function at the MCG.

The Victorian School Sports Awards are the highest sporting accolades presented in Victoria’s government school system. This annual event, held for the first time in 1994, rewards excellence across all categories of major school sports. The awards are given to students who have excelled or made an outstanding contribution to school sport in Victoria. There is only one award per sport across the State of Victoria, so they are very hard to win.

Arleah was captain of the Victorian U16 Rugby League team and was also a member of the Victorian U19 team. She captained the Melton Secondary College girls’ rugby team to their 4th State title in 5 years. Set to inspire, Arleah organised multiple rugby clinics for primary school students conducted by Melbourne Storm development coaches.

Arleah is the 12th person from Melton Secondary College to receive a SSV Sporting Blue – a wonderful achievement by the school.

Netball

Yr 10 student, Melissa Oloamanu, represented Victoria at the Australian u/17 netball championships in Brisbane. Melissa, who was named an All Australian after the U16 championships in 2018, was named vice captain of the Victorian team. The girls placed 4th overall.

Western Metropolitan Region Swimming Carnival

9 swimmers qualified for the Region swimming finals across 22 events. Every student came home with at least one medal – a wonderful achievement in this very powerful Region.

SSV State Swimming Final

Year 11 student, Manar Mahfouz, despite being a bit body weary after a solid performance at the National swim championships in Adelaide during the holidays, achieved an outstanding result at the SSV State swimming finals last week.

Manar has come home with a STATE CHAMPION title after winning the 50m butterfly. She also came 3rd in the 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle, and a 5th in 100m breastroke.

NRL 9's - North West Region

Three teams participated in the qualifying competition. Two teams have qualified again for the State finals – the girls 18yrs team (State Champions 3 previous years) and the boys 16yrs. The boys 18yrs tried hard but were hit by a couple of serious injuries. We wish the boys a satisfactory recovery.

Volleyball Intermediate Boys - Western Region Finals

Unfortunately, we arrived very late and had to run straight onto the court and play. As a result we lost the first set against Maribyrnong, but once organised we reversed the tide and won the match in 3 sets. We def Northern Bay, Geelong in 2 sets and drew with the Grange 1 set each. The loss in the first set cost us as The Grange went through to the Region final on set percentage - they won both other matches 2-0. Hopefully lesson learnt about reading departure times on the consent form!!!!

Tennis

A mixed team was entered in the Intermediate boys competition. We did very well winning all games bar one to finish 2nd at Division level.

AFL

AFL Goldfields sent representative development teams away during the holiday break. We were fortunate to have two representatives in both the boys who went to Northern Territory, and girls who went to Tasmania. Both teams played against State level opposition. The boys were Cody Chapman and Riley Theo, both Yr 12's. Our girls were Jasmine Kincaid, Yr 10 and Nicole Besnard Yr 9. All four performed with distinction. Nicole won the best player award against the team from Northern Tasmania. She is a recent addition to our ADP program.

AFL Results

Intermediate boys - def Kurunjang 10-10 to 1-0 and def Bacchus Marsh 6-6 to 2-4. Best on the day - Ethan Sullivan, Kane Sullivan, Jarrod Bibby, Benn Tyson, Keiron Harrington, Matt Dowdy.

Intermediate Girls - def Kurunjang 10-8 to 0-3 and def Bacchus Marsh 8-19 to 2-0. Best on the day - Nicole Besnard, Ella Tyson, Jasmine Kincaid, Eva Lavanda

Woolworths Earn and Learn - again

We are excited to be taking part in the 2019 Woolworths Earn & Learn program.

During the previous campaign, we were able to purchase some great resources with the points we earned, thanks to you.

From now until 25th June, you can collect stickers at Wooloworths that go towards Earn & Learn points. For every $10 you spend at Woolworths (excluding the purchase of tobacco, liquor and gift cards), you will receive a sticker. These stickers can then be given to your children to collect on a special sticker sheet. Once it is completed, they can simply bring it back here to school or you can drop them into your local Woolworths collection box.

If any parent/guardian wishes to help out in the sport program please feel free to contact Mr. Darcy. You can help out as an official at the athletics carnivals or assist in umpiring any of the programmed sports e.g. volleyball, AFL, netball. Parent participation is much appreciated. A Working with Childrens check is compulsory.
