Byrne Shield Boys Cricket

Last Tuesday afternoon Kildare opened up it’s Byrne Shield campaign against Wagga High School at the Duke of Kent Oval. After losing the toss, Kildare was sent in to bat. At 3 for 38 after 7 overs, Matt Barton and Josh Barr then combined to steadied the ship to help us get to 6 for 73 after 13 overs. This stability allowed Nick Madden and Charlie Munn to score quickly, with Munn scoring two massive 6’s, adding valuable runs towards the end.
Kildare ended the innings with 130 runs from our 20 overs with Munn (26) and Barr (25) top scorers.
Kildare then began their second innings with Charlie Munn claiming an LBW on the 3rd ball of the innings, setting the tone for the rest of the match. Patrick Prest and Charlie Douglas picked up valuable wickets in the middle of the innings to place more pressure on WWHS batting order. This allowed Sam Smith to finish off the lower order to ensure Kildare won their first game of the year.
Charlie Munn (1/14) backed up his efforts with the bat with some very tight bowling.
Kildare plays TRAC on Monday 10th and will progress to a Semi-Final on Tuesday 11th.
The boys will be playing at Duke of Kent on both days at 4 pm.
Good luck boys
