Curriculum Matters

Well done to our students for the positive way they have started the school year. The staff at the College have spoken of the importance of team and that being part of a team is key to everyone moving learning forward. One other essential ingredient is engaging in learning conversations, whether that be in the classroom or in coaching. Being proactive about learning means that students can be well supported. These sentiments were also echoed at the 2019 HSC High Achievers Assembly which was held last Tuesday. This was another great opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate our students positive learning growth in the HSC last year.

All students in Years 7-10 are also presently involved in OARS testing in the areas of Literacy, Numeracy, Science and General Abilities. OARS is a series of 40 minute online tests which provide fast feedback to staff about student’s learning. This data assists all of our staff, working in teams at the College to then improve our planning and pedagogical practice in all areas of curriculum.

Just a reminder, for any students who are considering changing elective subjects or engaging in alternative patterns of study please understand, changes are by negotiation and may be impacted upon by subject lines, class sizes and NESA requirements. For a change, of course, students must come and see myself, engage in a discussion around options and then complete the necessary paperwork. At that point, a new timetable will be issued.

Best wishes for the year ahead.
