Coles Tokens
The Health and PE Team at East Campus are very grateful to the families within our community for their generosity regarding the Coles Tokens collected during Term 1. We collected over 9000 tokens across the 8 week promotion, which is over 1000 tokens a week! With these tokens, we were able to order brand new sporting equipment, including basketballs, soccer balls and a high quality rebound net for minor games. All of this equipment will be used in PE classes and help to further assist in ensuring we have high quality equipment to deliver innovative and engaging classes for our students.
Sporting Schools
In Term 3, we have been fortunate to again gain a Sporting School Grant allowing students at St. Peter's College access to participate and improve their sporting skills. The chosen sport in Term 3 is Athletics. The Athletics sessions began last week with the SIS Athletics team; upskilling the students in their chosen events and provide an opportunity for East and West students to train together in preparation for the upcoming SIS Athletics Carnival on 27 August .
The 4 sessions are running at West Campus and will involve students receiving guidance and training in their chosen events. So far, the participation in the long jump, triple jump and high jump session on Monday, 6 August and the long distance running session on Wednesday, 8 August has been outstanding, with students showing an eagerness to be involved and working hard to improve, through the assistance of teachers Mrs Heijen and Miss Lyster (who both have high level athletic backgrounds), Mr Samaranayake and Mr De Goldi.
We are excited for the remaining sessions in the next two weeks:
- Monday, 13 August Period 1 @ West campus - shot put, discus and javelin
- Thursday, 23 August Period 2 @ West campus – 100m and 200m
Thank you to those students and teachers involved in the Sporting School Athletics Program. It has been fantastic to see the level of enthusiasm and drive from our students and we look forward to some excellent results in the upcoming SIS Athletics carnival.

Eastern Schools Rugby 7’s Gala Day
On Wednesday, 8 August St. Peter’s College entered the Victoria Eastern Schools Rugby Sevens Gala day at Under 16 level for girls and boys. The girls were first to start their day against Cranbourne Secondary College. They dominated play in both halves, but struggled to convert their chances into points, eventually grinding out a (two try) 10-0 win. Their second game was a much easier affair against Presentation College Windsor. A hat-trick of tries to Tayla Cunnington and a brace to Taema Atulia led to a 31-0 victory.
The final and toughest pool game was against Patterson River who offered a greater defensive challenge. A 10-0 half time lead to the St. Peter’s College girls threatened to be overhauled, however, they held on for a 10-5 win to finish first in their pool. That meant progression straight to the U16 girls final as well as entry to the State Championships. The girls met Fountain Gate in the final, which was, as expected, a tight, edge of your seats struggle for ascendancy. There was no separating them by half time, locked at 0-0. However, Fountain Gate showed greater composure in the second half to run in three tries and take the spoils on the day, the St. Peter’s College girls finishing deserved runners up.
In the boys competition, the going was much tougher. In the first game, they controlled and maintained possession for most of the game. However, despite one try, they just couldn’t convert their pressure into points and two opportunistic tries to Cranbourne Secondary college resulted in a 5-14 loss. The second game was against a strong Fountain Gate side who raced out to a three try advantage by half time. The St. Peter’s boys rallied together and produced a much stronger second half, allowing just one further try, but still a convincing loss. With finals out of the picture, the last game against Emerson was the St. Peter’s College boys best opportunity to get a result. This time they had to spend most of their time defending, scrambling well in the face of an Emerson onslaught. When finally in possession, St. Peter’s College maximised their opportunities to dot down 3 times for a 21-0 win and a victorious finish to the day.
In the boys competition, Lachlan Lang captained and led his side tirelessly and by example. Josh Nicol led the way defensively with some effective tackling, whilst Dyllan Lalouette had a great all round day, both defensively and in attack, leading the way with two tries for the day.
For the girls, an unfortunate injury to Annie Lakopo at the end of the first game prematurely ended a promising start to the day. Hopefully, a speedy recovery may see her available for the State Championships. Taema Atulia showed great pace and defensive pressure, whilst Elizabeth Lupeamanu captained and led the side by example. However, it was Talya Cunnington who stole the limelight, picking up five tries throughout the day, as well as the player of the tournament award, in just her first experience of Rugby Sevens.
