Year 7 & 8 Girls – Awesome Mini Project
This week we launched the Awesome Project, a mini-series of 3 sessions for Year 7 and 8 girls who will build, participate and help present each session. This mini-series is a quick and easy way for the junior girls to refocus their attention on building personal resilience and positive and supportive friendships. Focusing on the girls’ character strengths will form a critical component to the success of these sessions as supported by our Strive and Thrive pastoral program.
The first session asked the girls to see themselves through the lens of awesomeness – which of course they all are. The girls were challenged to consider how to resolve conflict, and disagreements using character strengths of kindness, persistence and fairness and create a road map of solutions that prevent misunderstandings turning into conflict. The girls were very impressive and welcomed the opportunity to share their ideas and exhibited many of the characters as identified in the poster below. This session on awesomeness will also be developed over the coming term for boys, because they too are awesome.

Pastoral Period
This session examined the virtue of Justice and the associated character strengths of fairness, team-work and leadership. Each year level from 7 to 12 explored the many ways our characters strengths can help us to behave in ways that promote just outcomes. From playing judge and jury in a number of scenarios to racing to complete puzzles, students developed experience and formed opinions regarding what is just and fair in both our community and our world. It never surprised teachers just how compassionate and honest our students are when they see an injustice or a situation that is for them unfair. Today it was important to assist students in gaining skills in using their signature character strengths to strive to be ethical and just members of their community.
Speaking of awesome: Gold Coast Australian Open: Twins Shine
Introducing Blake and Mitchell Keel, two awesome sporting talents, shining through their talents in lawn bowls.
"On the 21st of June, was the day that Blake and I played in the under 18 Australian Open lawn bowls competition. This is one of the hardest competitions in Australia and we found that when we played in it. The results in the end weren’t that great however we both gained a lot of experience and made new friends. We are so grateful to the school for giving us the opportunity to be able to play in this event. This event was held in Tweed Heads, Broadbeach and many more venues around the Gold Coast. Kids from all over Australia came to play in this competition and the overall winner of this event came from Dubbo NSW. We would also like to thank Berwick Bowling Club for preparing us for this event."
WE CAN’T WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR!!!
