Students Strike for Climate Change

On Friday 15th March over 150,000 students across Australia took to the streets to ask our leaders for more action on climate change. The strike was inspired by 15 year old Greta Thunberg, a Swedish student who started striking from school every Friday outside her Parliament to get the attention of the politicians inside. Her individual action has now turned into a global movement of passionate students across the planet. Friday’s strike was held in 112 countries in over 1769 cities and towns across the earth!

We left school at recess and caught the train to the city with 100’s of other students and ran into lots of our friends from Clifton Hill Primary and other local schools. We were amoungst over 20,000 students striking from school and gathering at Treasury Place in Melbourne. We want to have a safe climate future and want to protect our environment from more coal mines and pollution. After some inspiring speeches, chants, a welcome to country and lots of music and excitement, we marched down Collins St, across Russell St and back up to Victoria’s Parliament House. It was a peaceful show of unity for the future and we were proud to be there. Some of us even ended up on the news! We learnt a lot about the importance of speaking up, even when you’re just a kid.
