Secondary Report
Last week we had the privilege of hearing the Sri Lanka Team presenting at the Secondary Chapel service. I am always blessed to hear what these teams achieve while they are working in the children’s homes. Our students and staff always come home with a new perspective on life and appreciation for what they already have.
I know Miss Milne and Kingsley Marston are keen to return to Sri Lanka to continue the work that they started. Whilst there they assisted in the building of a retaining wall at the girls home and painting some of their rooms. At the boys home the main project was to repaint the front of the house. In between all the work they had plenty of time to interact with the children in these homes and make some lifelong friendships with them, as well as the students from the other Tyndale schools. I would encourage any Year 9 or Year 10 to take up the opportunity to go on one of these cultural or mission trips. They will return with a new perspective on life.
Please remember the Secondary Presentation Night is on Tuesday 26 November 2019. It is a great night to celebrate the achievements of the year and to also farewell our Year 12 students. It will be great to see you all there.

Food & Hospitality
Many staff enjoyed the offer of a free lunch last week, beautifully designed and prepared by our Year 11 Food & Hospitality students . The menu included options of vegan and vegetarian and in particular, the Chicken Caesar wrap was beautifully presented and well received.
Such a lot of learning and planning was completed, three students formed a co-operative team which produced an outstanding result.

Looking for a Tutor?
We are often asked by parents for contact details of anyone we know that provides Secondary School tutoring. Just this week we received information from Bonnie Edgecomb, a newly arrived resident to Strathalbyn with her husband Matthew who is the new pastor at the local Lutheran Church.
Bonnie is a teacher/tutor offering high school tutoring to students in Strathalbyn and surrounding areas, particularly in the area of Senior English, Research Project and HASS, along with other Middle School subjects.
If you are interested in this service, please feel free to make contact with Bonnie via the details here.

Sharing some more successes!
Liam Johns (one of our Longevity Students, who is finishing Year 12 this year, having been with us since Reception) was awarded a Credit in the Biology Olympiad, putting him in the top 30% of students who competed in Australia. He’s also been earning Distinctions and High Distinctions in his Flinders Extension Studies, where he has been enrolled in undergraduate literature subjects at Flinders University as part of his SACE.
Also, I’ve been conducting exit interviews with Year 12s and the thing they’ve appreciated the most about their time at Tyndale is the sense of community and the support that they’ve received. What a blessing!

Country Life Compassion- Strathalbyn Pantry Club
On 13 November 2019 we went to visit the Strathalbyn Pantry Club. Mrs Wise, who works at the Pantry Club, explained to us how the club operates. Businesses such as Woolworths kindly donate food items to the Pantry Club, along with some residents of the Strathalbyn community. The food is stored at the Pantry Club’s Emmanuel House, whereupon it is collected by or delivered to people that need it. Mrs Wise explained that it takes great courage for people to ask for help, especially in a society that promotes a culture of independence and self-sufficiency.
Mrs Wise also set up an activity for us to do. We were put into groups, and each group had to select a certain number of food items from the pantry and put it into a tub for a certain size household, although these were not for actual people. The aim of the activity was to teach the importance of choosing healthy food that would last a long time, and that can be used for a variety of meals. It also gave us insight to what is could be like for a grateful customer going through the careful choosing process.
