14 June - 16 June Round 7

Year 7 Red – Ray McManus (Coach), Ren (Team Manager)

Mazenod Red Won 40 to Upper Swan Gold 26

Year 7 Blue – Michael Ferritto (Coach), Paula (Team Manager)

Mazenod Blue Lost 55 to Swan View 60

We headed out to Brown Park with confidence we could win our 4th game of footy as long as we played 4 quarters of footy. We started really well and by quarter time had 5 goals to nil on the scoreboard and had played our best quarter of football for the year. The boys were exhausted after the first quarter and we tired to let them back into the contest and Swan View kicked 2 goals to nil. We came in for a well earned break at half time to try and regroup and get back to the way we played our first quarter.

Unfortunately the boys tired further and didn’t take full advantage of their opportunities and the end of the third we were only 2 goals up.

We urged the boys to keep working until the end, but having 14 players against about 20 meant we didn’t have the legs to maintain our margin and Swan View hit back with 2 quick goals to start the quarter. To our boys credit they did not stop trying and when Swan View got in front we got to within a point of them, but a quick reply by Swan View put them 7 points up with about 3 minutes left.  We surged and gave it one last shot and kicked two points to get within 5 points at the final siren.

It was a great contest that we will learn from and help us to improve as the season progresses.  Well done boys.

Thanks to our assistant coaches, manager and parent helpers that all contribute to making the game so much better for the boys.
