Principal's Message

Theatre Production 'LEAR'

The school community is warmly invited to come along to the Senior Campus Drama Room on Thursday 13th September and Friday 14th September to see 'LEAR'. Shows start at 7pm.

LEAR is a contemporary adaptation of the original Shakespeare play - King Lear.  VUSC and Western Edge Youth Arts have combined forces once again to put together an amazing performance and rehearsals have been underway for many weeks.

The play is about a newly created utopian world; one which has been created for the sole purpose of peace, prosperity and equality. Teenagers who are desperately seeking to live in a society more just and tolerant than the ones they have grown up in run it. When Lear, the founder, decides it is time for her to step down as leader, she halves her empire between two new leaders and for the first time, the community is divided. Under new reign, Utopia is suddenly under threat.

Tickets are $2 each and will be available at your campus office in the next week or two. Seats are limited so be quick!

VUSC Students are becoming more organised all the time

As you will be aware, we are now putting up all assessment grades for tasks up on Compass as soon as they are marked (within 2 weeks of the due date). This is a great resource for parents who want to keep on top of students’ progress and track whether assessments are being handed in on time.

Every student also receives grades relating to their organisation in class. Grades are now available for our Binder Checks. These checks determine what students are bringing to class. Including:

  • A well organised binder
  • Pencils and materials for writing
  • Notes and handouts from previous classes
  • Any other required textbooks or equipment.

As you can see from the chart below most of our students come well organised to class receiving either an A (all required items) or a B (one item missing). Our organisation as a school has improved markedly since 2017 so well done everybody!

Parent Opinion Survey

The annual Parent Opinion survey is now underway. This Department of Education survey is an important way for us to gather information about parent perceptions of the school. The anonymous survey invites parents to rate their experiences of the school across a range of areas including transition, approachability, student behavior & safety, homework, etc.

Parent responses are collated by the Department and the information is then provided back to the school.  The results are extremely important to us - we analyse them carefully. This information is used in a variety of ways to inform planning for 2019. If you have received a survey, please complete it as soon as possible.

Parent Information Night for Year 7 2019

Our parent information evening for Year 7 students commencing next year will be on Tuesday 11th September at the Junior Campus starting at 6.00pm. Parents will receive their information pack in the mail in the coming days. It is very important that parents attend even if they have other children at the college, as our staff will have important information about their child's enrolment and transition on the night.

Congratulations Rugby Teams!

I am proud to announce that our Junior U/14's Rugby Boys team has made the State Final of the  Cameron Smith Shield to be played on 5th September, and our Intermediate U/16's Rugby Boys team has also progressed to their State Final, the Cooper Cronk Shield to be played on 12th September. Well done to these students and the coaching staff! We wish them all the best.

RU OK Day - Friday 14 September

Each year the Junior Campus celebrates RU OK Day to increase awareness about mental health and strategies for wellbeing. VCAL students will present RU OK education and strategies to Year 7 students in September and there will be a day of activities with a sausage sizzle lunch on Friday 14 September. All proceeds will go to the RU OK Campaign.

Compass

A reminder to parents to check your child's learning tasks and grades as they are posted on Compass. You can also view your child's attendance, add absence notes and update your contact details. Parent teacher interviews are coming up at the end of term so please keep an eye on this newsletter for the release of Term 3 interim reports and interview bookings.  We look forward to seeing you to discuss your child's progress.
