Reporting Student Absences

We have now updated our phone system to allow  for improved streamlined communication between parents and the School.  Pre-recorded messages now allow parents/carers to advise the school when their child is going to be absent for the day.  Parents MUST advise the School office before 9am if they know their child will be away that day as per new policies and proceedures.  Any unexplained student absences will then be followed up by Office Staff that morning.  Any pre-planned absences such as holidays still need to be communicated to the School in writing.

Get the Bug!

The Reading Bug that is! All over the country 851 schools in Victoria have students signed up to participate in the Premiers’ Reading Challenge.

Late last term classroom teachers at Oakleigh Primary issued students with their unique usernames and passwords to log the books they read on the online website. https://www.eduweb.vic.gov.au/Challenger/WebLogin.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fChallenger%2fStudent%2fStudentHome.aspx&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

Students in Prep – Year 2 can read books by themselves or with someone else, aiming for a target of 30.  20 of the books must be from the Challenge Booklist which can be found online at the Premier’s Reading Challenge website. Students in Year 3-6 are set the target of reading 15 books, 10 of which must be on the challenge list, all before 8th of September.

On Monday at Assembly Myles in 3F recommended the Captain Underpants Series to the student body to catch the reading bug.  Myles recommends the series of adventure books because they are full of lots of jokes and good graphics.  The recommendations won’t stop there.  Each week another student will recommend a book to keep the reading bug growing in our school.  We all know that we are more likely to pick up a book that has been recommended by friends.  It would be great to see parents catching the reading bug too and modelling reading for personal enjoyment.

Happy reading everyone.
