School Council President
Dear Parents
As you are aware, our Library is currently undergoing a significant renovation and extension. Designed by H2O Architects and built by 2Construct, this project will be completed early in Term 3 - on-time and on-budget - and will be an outstanding resource for our children.
This project has been funded entirely by locally-raised funds. On behalf of the Council, staff and students of the College, thank you for your continued support of the College - generous donations to our Building Fund and support from parents, by paying parent financial contributions, have enabled us to complete this project. Indeed, in recent years many families and ex-students have made generous donations to our tax-deductible Building Fund.
In future, the College will use these funds to support Stage 2 of our redevelopment of the College’s facilities. Stage 2 will include the construction of new Science laboratories, general purpose classrooms, toilets and music studios - replacing many facilities built in the early 1950s.
Further information about our building fund and the Stage 2 redevelopment can be found on our website at http://www.mckinnonsc.vic.edu.au/mckinnon-secondary-college-building-fund/.
Stage 2 of our school’s redevelopment is ready to proceed, as soon as it is funded by the State Government. As President, I wish to convey that School Council was very disappointed the recent Victorian State Budget did not include any funding for this vital project. McKinnon continues to deliver an outstanding education for our children, however it’s continued growth in enrolments is putting a strain on the College’s ageing facilities. We are pleased the Victorian opposition have committed to funding Stage 2 of our redevelopment (if elected), and we remain hopeful this project will be funded by the Government in the near future.
On another note, many families may have seen our College’s achievements celebrated in the Weekend Australian recently. In a special publication honouring Australia’s highest-achieving schools, McKinnon Secondary College was ranked 7th in a list of the 50 highest-achieving comprehensive, non-select entry public secondary schools in Australia (and was ranked 3rd among Victorian schools). This is well-deserved recognition of the high quality education our children receive at McKinnon, and on behalf of the Council I congratulate and thank the College’s teaching staff for the difference they make to students’ lives.
