'Big Dreams' Book Week Performance

It was a really exciting morning meeting 'Henry' and 'Lou' and enjoying an educational musical presenting some of the awarded children’s books from The Children’s Book Council of Australia 2019 shortlist, and celebrating CBCA Book Week. The heartfelt production looked at different episodes in each character’s journey where they learn not to be discouraged by negative messages in order to follow their heart’s desire. The students were brilliant at engaging in the performance and contributing wonderful ideas to the show. The most important message being that you can always achieve your dreams if you believe in yourself and never give up. 'Be brave! Be strong!'

This performance supported our learning in Library so well as we have spent many lessons exploring and celebrating these books through written reflections and visual arts.

40 Hour Famine - Backpack Challenge

At last Friday’s assembly we had James from World Vision come out and speak to the students about World Vision, the 40 Hour Famine and The Backpack Challenge!

From 6-8 September many people will take on the challenge of living out of their backpacks for 40 hours with only essential items (basic food, water, toothbrush etc.).  World Vision’s aim is to lead a global change by raising awareness and funds to support those forced to flee their homes.

We have at least 3 students (that I’m aware of) taking up this challenge - Ilaria, Matisse and Juliet.

If you would like to take up the challenge, support these girls or just read up more about World Vision and the work they are doing for those less fortunate than us, then please visit the World Vision 40 Hour Famine website https://www.40hourfamine.com.au/

Italian Day 2019

On Tuesday, the students celebrated languages and cultures with a spotlight on Italian. Children came dressed in multicultural clothes, we had Italian chefs, soccer players and even Mario and Luigi Brothers.

We started the day with a performance by La Comica Productions called Missioni Gnocchi. The laughter and engagement on the students’ faces was the highlight of my day.

After recess, the students were all engaged in Italian and Mandarin activities. We had mask making, tombola/bingo and many more exciting experiences.

Just before lunch the children were given a gelato treat, it was delightful to hear them say “grazie” when they received their ice cream. A big Grazie to the mammas that came to do all the scooping!

After lunch the students reflected on the day and many of them had the opportunity to have a photo booth picture taken.

Overall it was a great celebration!
