Have you considered studying neuroscience?

Neuroscience is the study of how the brain and nervous system impact behaviour, actions and cognitive thinking.  Students can specialise in areas such as behavioural neuroscience, neuroimaging, social neuroscience, molecular neuroscience, and neuro-linguistics etc.

Research is undertaken in areas such as music, sport, schizophrenia, epilepsy, stroke, Alzheimer’s Disease, and Huntington’s Disease etc.  Studying neuroscience would suit students who are interested in science, research and lab work. It’s advisable to study subjects such as advanced mathematics, biology, chemistry, psychology and physics at school.

To become a neurologist or neurosurgeon, you will need to study a medical degree first.  Victorian universities are leaders in the fields of neuroscience and neuropsychology research. The following are two universities that offer neuroscience as a major at the undergraduate level:

Swinburne University: can major in Neuroscience through the Bachelor of Health Science and Bachelor of Health Science (Professional), http://bit.ly/2hrMt42

The University of Melbourne, can major in Neuroscience through the Bachelor of Biomedicine or the Bachelor of Science, http://bit.ly/2rWjXhe

Work Experience Opportunities in Neuroscience?

Year 9 and 10 students can apply to undertake a week of work experience at the Melbourne Neuroscience Institute. Students need to apply between December – January and successful applicants will complete the work experience in 2019, http://bit.ly/2yhXxem

Congratulations

One day a week for term 3 (and a couple of days in term 4) four of our Year 10 students were able to participate in a Trade Taster program put together by the GMLLEN, Uniting (SFYS), GOTAFE and the Better Together Alliance Schools. The program enabled Soo Madhavla, Josh Osborne, Caylum Roberts and Jordan Fleming to get a taste of a range of trades including Building & Construction, Automotive, Electrical and Plumbing. The students conducted themselves as great ambassadors of our school and made the most of this wonderful opportunity. Well done boys. Further, they also successfully managed to complete their CI Card training an important step in being able to gain real-work experiences in the construction industry. Josh, Soo & Jordan (Caylem absent) were presented with their certificates by the City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Cr. Kim O’Keefe.

Getting Year 12 Subject Results and ATAR

Your VCE study scores, ATAR and VTAC Scaled Study Scores will be available to you via the Results and ATAR website and the Results and ATAR app. All current VCE students receive a statement of VCE study scores from the VCAA. However, only students who have applied for courses through VTAC this year and have paid their VTAC processing fees will be sent an ATAR statement in the mail, naturally mail services are not as timely as getting results online so you shouldn't rely on these. Further details about accessing results, ATAR and change of preference will be provided in the next couple of Newslink editions.

  • How to access your results online

You will need to do this in order to have sufficient time to complete Change of Preference should it be required. The VCE results and ATAR Service will be available from 7am, 14th  December. To view your results online, log on to www.resultsandatar.vic.edu.au using the instructions provided there.

Note: The Results and ATAR service log in details are different from your VTAC ID and PIN.

  • How to receive your ATAR using the VTAC app

Make sure you have the latest version of the app, which adds a "Login to your VTAC account" option on the main menu. Once you have logged in to your VTAC account from the app, you can use the "My ATAR" menu option to view your ATAR and contributing scaled study scores.
