Better Together Alliance Showcase:

On Friday 26th October most music students and staff performed at the BTA Music Showcase held at Shepparton High School. The theme of the concert was ‘At the Movies’. Everyone had a lot of fun dressing up as movie characters and performing music from movie soundtracks. The following ensembles combined with their equivalent ensembles from the Alliance schools to form big ensembles: Training Band, Mid-Level Band, Senior Band, Stage Band, String Orchestra.

Mid-Level Band- Hakea Lodge performance:

On Tuesday 30th October the Mid-Level Band performed a range of pieces for the residents of Hakea Lodge as a celebration before they move into their new accommodation.

Cushion Concert at Eastbank:

Today the String Orchestra and the Brass Quartet performed to pre-school aged children at the Eastbank Cushion concert. The children were entertained with tunes such as Monster Mash, Creatures and Curse of the Rosin-Eating Zombies!

Attendance, Practice and Commitment:

With so many performances occurring at this time of year this is a timely reminder that attendance at all instrumental music lessons, ensemble rehearsals and performances is an expectation of all students enrolled in the instrumental music program at Wanganui. It is also an expectation that students do regular, daily practice of between 30-60 minutes on their instrument so that when they arrive at their lessons and rehearsals they have completed the set work from the previous lesson. Ensembles are a team and each student is a valued member of that team and therefore is responsible for being prepared for upcoming rehearsals and performances. Lessons, ensemble rehearsals and performances are not choices but expectations. We ask parents to help us support your child’s musical obligations by helping with practice routines at home – providing time and a suitable place for practice to occur, take an interest in their music and encourage them to play to you, help them set reminders on their phone or iPad to attend lessons and rehearsals, and be present at performances to show your children how much you value their musical education.
