Year 5 News

NAPLAN NAPLAN NAPLAN

That is probably all that has gone through most of our minds over the past couple of weeks. The Year 5s have done an amazing job persevering through this, at times, challenging and disruptive few weeks.

Only one more test to go, well done Year 5s.

Buddy Reading

The Year 5s and the Prep buddies have been very fortunate to start a reading program together. When able, the Year 5 students will take a picture storybook, chosen by themselves, to read to their buddies in Prep.

This is a great initiative that we hope will encourage the little ones to pick up a book and also further strengthen the Year 5s' reading abilities.

Inquiry

We have concluded our first Unit of Inquiry and are now moving onto our next unit, Where We are In Place and Time.

For the remainder of the term, we will concentrate on our new central idea, past events shape the present and future, along with our lines of inquiry focusing on European settlement in Australia, Asian migrants in Australia and the impacts of colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

This unit will help the students get a deeper understanding of the history that shaped our country that we know today and also explore some of the most influential individuals to come about since the first European settlers.

Maths

Leading up to the final few weeks, the Year 5s have revised and extended their knowledge on multiplication and division. We have moved past using remainders and now the students are experimenting with how we can divide numbers with decimals as the answers.

Once again, what a fortnight it has been. As we start to wind down and move towards the end of the term, the Year 5s continue to impress the teachers with their continuous enthusiasm and inquiring attention. We are almost there! Keep it up!
