Prep News

iPads

The Preps have been very excited to use the iPads during our weekly ICT sessions. The Prep teachers have been fortunate to have some older students assist in logging the children on to various programs and help any requiring extra support.

The Preppies are becoming a lot more confident in using their headphones & navigating various programs and are completing more tasks independently during these sessions.

Chalk SMART Spelling

The Preps had a lot of fun writing the first four SMART Spelling words in chalk on the asphalt last week. They all tried really hard to form their letters correctly, writing 'cat', 'ant', 'tin' and 'tap'. The Preps were asked to sound the words out as they wrote, which is a great way for them to practice their letters, sounds and blending.

Chalk is a fun way to practise the SMART Spelling words, Golden Words and even the alphabet at home. Some other ideas to make practising these important words fun at home are to paint with water on concrete or use playdough, magnet letters, stamps or Lego to make the words.

Prep Assembly

Last week we held our first Prep assembly in the Great Hall.  These will be held every second week when there is no whole school assembly.

It was wonderful to celebrate a number of students that the teachers have observed doing great things at school!

Certificates were presented to students for being 'Caring' and 'Risk-takers'.  These behaviours are part of our PYP Learner Profile.  At school we aim to develop learners that are:

Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Principled, Open-minded, Caring and Risk-takers.

Congratulations to all the Prep children that received an award last week!  It was lovely to see their proud and excited faces.  We look forward to presenting more awards next.  Keep up the great work Preps!

Cultural and Neurodiversity Week

Last week for Cultural and Neurodiversity Week, the whole school considered what makes them special and how everyone is different.

Mrs Duffy-Fainu'u spoke to the Preps about all sorts of people who have their own superpower and have succeeded in the face of adversity.

To celebrate ourselves and how special we all are, we had fun making superhero capes representing our superpower. We also had a special whole school picnic on the oval. We are so proud of all of our students and how they all shine in their own special way!
