Year 3 Magpies and Numbats

The Year Threes have had a very busy start to the 2023 school year.

In Religious Education we have been learning about different communities, the Church Community in particular. We completed PowerPoint presentations explaining who makes up the Church community and how members participate in this community. We also learnt about Mary and enjoyed painting pictures of the Annunciation.

During English lessons we are preparing for NAPLAN by revising the Persuasive and Narrative genre writing. While reading, we have been exploring different books about friendships and our favourite was the text titled, ‘Fox’ by Margaret Wild. We also read, ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ by Drew Daywalt and we discussed when it is okay to quit something and when it is not; some great, in depth responses were given including, that it is not okay to quit when your friends are counting on you!

In Mathematics, we have learnt about place value of numbers up to 10 000! We played dice games and learnt about odd and even numbers covered in Mathematics. Fractions has been the trickiest concept so far and the kids used pattern blocks to help develop their understanding of halves, thirds, quarters, fifths and eighths of a whole or collection. We have enjoyed using technologies to access our newest Mathematics program, ‘Oxford Mathematics’.
