Parent Connection

Year 7 Welcome Evening..

As reported in the last Newsletter, our Year 7 and New student House Welcome evening was a lovely evening (despite the hot weather) with many parents accepting the offer to come to the Campus to meet Learning Advisors and House leaders. This informal session enabled us to further get to know your young person as they start their journey at St. Peter's College. This chance for the students to connect is complemented by the current  R.E. unit of " We Belong " and is further solidified as the 168 of our Year 7's head off to Camp this week. ~ Photos below are of the students assembly before the nervous departure. Camp action photos will feature in our next issue of the Newsletter.

And for our new families, please feel free at all times to email your child's House Leader if you have specific  feedback on " What Went Well … " or " Even Better If … " on anything we do as a school. With so many competing interests we might not always hit the mark for everyone but it is always good to hear from caregivers as we strive to be our best for the students.

We want you!

Year 12 Advice for Parents

[Tuesday, 28 March 2023]

Hmmm!

Do you have a Year 12 student and you are not sure how to help them at home?

Hear from the experts. On Tuesday, 28 March at the Cranbourne Campus we have enlisted the external expertise of Elevate Educate to Speak with parents on the topic:

"Empowering parents to enforce study schools at home".

Elevate is a professional study skills company that we have used with our senior students for some time now. This year we would like to use their expertise to support parents to assist in creating the right conditions of success for your young person. A formal invitation will come by Operoo so please look out for it, whether a first time parent or whether 'junior' is your last, we expect this session to be useful for all.

Years 7 to 10 Cyber Safety Parent Evening (Cross campus)

[Wednesday, 5 April 2023]

Last year we were introduced to some alarming data taken from a national survey on  Cyber Safety in 2021 (see below). This led us as teachers to become involved in some exciting professional development on Cyber Safety that has changed some of our thinking and practices.

Cybers Safety Project Digital 2021 report

  • 37 % teens are connected to tech more than 4 hours outside of learning time
  • Nearly 2/3 felt Social media distracted to learning
  • More than 1/ 2 felt social media distracted from family
  • 65% of students are allowed to take their device into The bedroom overnight
  • 40% felt social media has made them feel bad about themselves

Now St. Peter's College has enlisted the expertise of the Cyber Safety Project to deliver an exciting, entertaining and at times jaw dropping parent information session that is designed to demystify adolescent use of technology, enlighten us on how to manage it in the home and empower us as parents to support our young people.

The event is targeted for parents of students of Years 10 and below from both Campuses and will be held in the comfortable Geode Centre (Performing Arts Theatre) on the evening of Wednesday, 5 April 2023.

Please keep the date free and look out for an Operoo Invitation with how to book a seat, early.  Please click the button below.
